在黄酒行业的变革中,会稽山(601579) lately announced its plan to acquire a 14.78% stake in Zhejiang Taipai Shaoxing Wine Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Taipai Shaoxing Wine") for RMB 1.61 billion. This strategic move not only demonstrates willi's determination to strengthen its position in the yellow wine market but also reflects the industry's efforts to break through existing challenges such as low profitability and intense price competition.
As one of the world's oldest types of wine, yellow wine, like white wine, boasts a rich cultural heritage. However, due to various reasons, the yellow wine industry has long been plagued by insufficient profits and low prices. Willi's capital integration and pricing adjustments may be seen as a reflection of the industry's recent self-adjustment and pursuit of breakthroughs.
In addition to this acquisition, willi recently raised prices for two of its products, with an increase of 6% for Pure Five Years series products and 11% for Chen Year series products respectively. These moves aim at reducing costs caused by rising raw material and labor fees while improving profit margins.
The rise in glass futures settlement prices by nearly 50% since the beginning of this year has put pressure on enterprises' cost structure; paper packaging material prices have also surged by over 40%, affecting packaging materials' share in overall costs which accounts for about half according to some research reports.
While there are concerns that high concentration levels could lead to reduced competition among major players within the industry, it is evident that these changes are necessary steps towards enhancing profitability amid persistently low prices and intensifying market competition.
It remains unclear how other players will respond or whether they too might follow suit with their own strategies aimed at boosting profitability through acquisitions or price hikes – all eyes now turn toward potential future developments within this evolving landscape where traditional wisdom meets modern business acumen.
